WPC flooring price is not defined by thickness alone. For an importer, real cost depends on product structure, wear layer, click system, surface finish, packaging and order volume. This guide explains how to read a WPC FOB quotation and what data to request before comparing prices.

1. Typical FOB price range

WPC flooring FOB price varies widely by specification and volume. For B2B buyers, a realistic range helps filter quotes that are too low and hide quality changes.

  • Economy WPC: USD 6-9/m² (basic thickness, thin wear layer, standard design)
  • Mid-range WPC: USD 9-13/m² (better core, 0.3-0.5 mm wear layer, stable finish)
  • Premium WPC: USD 13-18/m² (higher thickness, patented click, optional IXPE/EVA, deep texture)
  • Typical MOQ: 100-300 m² per color, depending on supplier
  • Final landed cost depends on Incoterm: FOB Ningbo/Shanghai excludes ocean freight and duties

2. Thickness and core structure

Total thickness affects stability, walking feel and material cost. But two 8 mm floors can have different prices if the core changes.

  • 5-6 mm: economy option for light residential projects
  • 7-8 mm: most common importer range, balancing cost and stability
  • 9-12 mm: premium option for better comfort and solid feel
  • Higher core density = better stability but higher cost
  • Wood/PVC content and additive formula affect rigidity, odor and durability
  • Ask supplier for: core density, weight per m² and dimensional tolerance

3. Wear layer and AC rating

The wear layer protects the decorative design. It is one of the most common reasons two quotes with the same total thickness have different prices.

  • 0.1-0.2 mm: low residential traffic, lowest price
  • 0.3 mm: residential/light commercial use, popular option
  • 0.5 mm: medium commercial use, better scratch resistance
  • 0.7 mm: heavy commercial use, noticeably higher cost
  • AC3/AC4/AC5 should be confirmed by test report, not only sales label
  • A thicker wear layer increases cost but reduces claims in demanding markets

4. Click system and acoustic underlayment

The click system determines installation speed and breakage rate on site. Acoustic underlayment adds comfort but also changes price per square meter.

  • Generic click: low cost, suitable for economy projects
  • UNILIN/VALINGE: better stability and market recognition, higher price
  • EVA backing: economy option for basic sound reduction
  • IXPE backing: better resilience, lower odor, higher price
  • Pre-attached backing increases price but reduces installation time
  • Request a real sample of the click system before confirming mass order

5. Finish, design and packaging

The end buyer judges the product by appearance and packaging. These decisions do not always change function, but they influence perceived value and cost.

  • Smooth surface: lower cost, simple appearance
  • Embossed-in-register/EIR texture: more realistic, higher cost
  • Standard designs: lower MOQ and faster delivery
  • Custom design: film cost, higher MOQ and longer lead time
  • Neutral carton: more economical
  • Custom carton: printing + design + MOQ cost
  • Reinforced pallet and corner protectors: increase cost but reduce transit damage

6. How to compare quotations correctly

Comparing only price per m² leads to mistakes. A cheap quote may change thickness, density, wear layer, packaging or warranty.

  • Compare the same specification: total thickness + wear layer + density + click + backing
  • Confirm whether export packaging is included
  • Confirm FOB port and price validity (PVC and additives fluctuate)
  • Ask for carton weight and m² per pallet to calculate freight
  • Ask for test report: abrasion resistance, dimensional stability, formaldehyde/odor
  • Request sample before order: color, click, odor and rigidity are best checked physically
  • Calculate landed cost: FOB + freight + insurance + duty + clearance + local transport
